Singkil

$15.00

Singkil is a dance that takes its name from the bells worn on the ankles of the Muslim princess. It's one of the oldest of Filipino dances. Singkil recounts the epic legend of the "Darangan" of the Maranao people of Mindanao. The dancers wear straight, solemn faces and maintain a dignified pose while dancing at a slow pace. The music gradually progresses to a faster tempo while the dancers skillfully manipulate their fans, representing winds. The dancers weave expertly through criss-crossed bamboos.

The print is so beautiful! It was neatly packaged in a roll tube. Thank you so much Ate!

I bought 4 12 x 16 designs from the art collection: Bahay Kubo, Sari-Sari Store, Harana and Singkil and I am so happy with the products! The measurements are accurate, the paper quality is great, the designs have wonderful detail, and the colors are clear and vivid. The designs are now framed and displayed in my living room space here in NYC. Also, the designer/owner Ethel was very professionial and prompt in replying to my inquiries. I totaly recommend all her designs! Salamat, Ethel!

I received the two art prints and they are gorgeous. The print of the courtship reminds me so much of my cousins who went to Japan to become cultural dancers. I will always remember them through this. Thank you!
